    between the drills. Sometimes the slits are cut, and pitted a good while before sowing.
    They are spread about ten inches apart from one another, and are then closed with the plough.
    When they are about three weeks sown, they are moulded, and again when they appear above the clay.
    The next operation with the potatoes is the spraying of them. The potatoes are usually dug with forks and spades, but where there are acres of potatoes to be dug, they are dug with a potato digger or the plough.
