  1. Severe Weather
Between eighteen hundred and ninty two and ninty three the greatest storm of wind known to the people of Donegal occurred. It happened on the Saturday before Christmas. My mother told me that she was eight years of age then and her mother was going to Derry to bring her her first pair of shoes for winter.
But the storm was so severe that no traffic was on the roads next day: It tumbled trees and up rooted hedges and blew the roofs off the houses and stacks of hay and straw were blown here and there and was destroyed. It wrecked all the fishing boats in Lough Foyle but one and this is how it was saved. The man that owned the boat saw a sign of the coming storm; he went to the shore and filled his boat with mud and this is how it was saved.
