- (continued from previous page)for a wedding of a friend sixty five years ago She wore elastic sides. Boots were then coming into fashion. Wooden clogs _ she said were the first shoes she wore, and these were made by her Uncle.
She wore a large bonnet, which covered the whole back of her head. There were two large feathers in the top of it. She showed us a hoop she wore under a long skirt. This skirt was very long behind, and when she wanted to get along more easily she caught up the back with a pair of small brass tongs which she showed us. When the tongs caught the skirt it could be raised to the proper height from from the ground by means of a long cord fastened to a ring in the top of the tongs and held by the hand, or fastened in front A ring kept the tongs fastened in the skirt a bustle placed at the small of the back lifted up the skirt to its desired position.
She wore a dolman which differed from a cape in that the arms were shaped in it.
She wore under the dolman a polka resembling what is called a cardigan(continues on next page)- Collector
