    Long ago there were few scholars, and only a very off person could read or write. Perhaps you would have travelled miles and miles without finding one that could write his own name. Pen, ink, and paper, were not in the houses for the people then did not know how to use them. The Catholics were not allowed to send their children to school, and so in nineynine cases out of a hundred the children grew up without any learning at all.
    ABout this time an old woman named Biddy Mc Gee was living in Muntahallaigh near the Illies-
