and throws the clay on top of the potatoes in one drill.
The neighbours sometimes help us with the potatoes. When the crops are growing the servant keeps them clear of weeds. We dig the potatoes with a potato digger. The servants and ourselves lift the potatoes. They lift them with their hands into a bath.
Some years we bring some of our potatoes home and store them in an empty house. Other years they are put in pits in the fields The pits are covered with rushes and clay is put on top of the rushes to keep them on. Potatoes were used for starch in our house not very long ago.
