  1. Midway between Milford and Kerrykeel in the County of Donegal in the parish of Tullyfern and in the barony of Kilmacrennan is a rock about twenty five feet high called "The Hawk's Rest".
    This rock overhangs the road. Some people in the locality believe that it will fall if and when three red-haired girls of the same christian name and surname walk together under it in the same direction. Others believe that it will fall on a red-haired girl riding on a white horse.
    Evidently a hawk built its nest on top of this rock and hence the name.
    About one hundred and fifty years ago this road did not exist. In those
