- I saw the remains of an old ship called the bavalier [?] that was wrecked on the Erne Estuary about 53 years ago. It was a sailing ship that was bringing a cargo of clay to the Ballyshannon Harbour, for Belleck Pottery, for the making of delph. It ran off its course and stuck in the sand. When the crew was a short distance away, the water went over it and the cargo was lost. No lives were lost at this ship wreck but if the crew had been about a half an hour later they would have been drowned.
