  1. In 1932 a pleasure steamer the "Cynthia" was wrecked at the West Pier and dashed against the rocks, when this happened there was one man on board but he escaped without being hurt.
    When the storm had ceased, chairs, cushions and parts of a piano could be seen floating around on the water.
