    Glasthule

    Mr. Carragher was one of the men who risked their lives to save others. He was a sailor on the 'Leinster" the mail-boat travelling from Dun-Laoghaire to Holy Head. One morning as it proceeded to Holy Head carring troops it was torpedoed by a German Submarine, and sank about half an hour afterwards. Mr. Carragher did his utmost to save as many as he could. He carried a non-swimmer to a launch, but in getting him ashore he slipped and was drowned. He caught another man by the hair but his hair gave way and he sank. He saved about forty people. He is still alive and works on the B and I boats he lives in number
