  1. The oldest landlords of this district were Kiely of Ballysaggart More and Drew of Mocollop. These families were settled in this district for centuries.
    They were considered very very bad landlords. Kiely evicted seventy five families one May morning and they were compelled to go to the mountains and build little cabins of mud and stones and thatched them with heather which grew on the hills.
    In this way Kiely made a big ranch of about three thousand acres for himself. These landlords are believed to have landed with Strongbow and confiscated the rich fertile lands along the valley of the Blackwater, built themselves mansions and built large walls and wood too, around their homes.
    They employed the poor workmen around to build these walls and plant the woods at fourpence a day. The landlords gave an equal portion of land on the barren mountain to each family they evicted. When the families
