    one big sod and when they came near the school they broke the sod and had two.
    The children who did not bring turf were punished severely. This school was held by the "Educational Company Dublin" and the teacher was paid yearly. In this school the children never heard of the Irish language.
    Mr Gallagher taught school for many years and at last he died and I heard from Mr Ginty who lived in Ardeocan Ballina that he was the first man who was buried in the new graveyard, League/? near Ballina Co Mayo.
    The things I have written about were told to me by Thomas Rogan, Culleens, Ballina, Co. Mayo. He is almost seventy six years and he knows a great deal of Irish.
