    of men came to our house, and one fellow wore red gloves and my grandmother was darning. He came up shaking hands with her, where upon she gave him a stab of the needle never knowing who it was and afterwards she found out that it was Uncle Michael.
    On Easter Sunday people eat a lot of eggs, because it is after Lent and they do not eat much eggs during that period.
    St Patrick's Day is also a very big holiday and the people all wear shamrock in their hats, and some people drink whiskey. One day an old man drank a lot in Ballina. He set out home about four o'clock in the evening and when he was coming down by St Patrick's Well on the Killala Road, he stood up in front of the statue and said ''Oh holy St Patrick see how I'm suffering for you''.
    There is a custom on Halloween night, it is to put three saucers on the table one containing water, another clay, and a third a ring. Then some person puts a cloth on his eyes, and proceeds to the saucers, which are left on the table, and if the person puts his hand in the clay he will be buried before the next Halloween and if he puts it in the water he
