    the chiefs built ditches around their houses. The big chiefs had three ditches around their houses and the smaller ones two or one.
    If a person did anything to these forts the "good people" or fairies would harm them. This was the belief of the old people and was proved to be true. A man named Thomas Mulkeen was ploughing a rath and lightning struck the horses and killed them.
    In the fort of Lissaniskea music was heard. A man was going home from visiting one night and on reaching the rath he heard grand music. He was so enchanted by the music that he sat
