    Ballyhaunis. He was a cripple and taught Irish, reading, and writing. These schools kept on till the first National School was built here.
    Other temporary hedge schools were in Kilbeg, taught by Mr. Henry, Carrowkeel taught by Mr. Higgins and Miss Tarpey taught in Lassiney and lodged in Mr. Waldrons house.
    The way the teachers were paid was a shilling quarterly from his or her pupils and some oats and potatoes
