    him across his back. On his way home he had to pass a gentlemans house. There was a young girl & nobody could ever make her laugh. The father offered a bag of gold for anyone who would make her laugh. She happened to be looking out the window when Jack was passing, & when she saw the ass on his back she began to laugh. Jack was brought before the gentleman, & he gave him the bag of gold. Jack went home well satisfied & himself & his mother lived happily after that.
