   My father usually sows half an acre of potatoes. Potatoes are sown in ridges and drills which are prepared in Springtime. Ridges. In lea-land potatoes are usually sown in ridges. In order to make the ridges the soil is first "scored". This is done by raising "fillibíns" with the plough. A space of about three feet is left between the fillibíns. This is the width of the ridge. When the manure is scatter a slight shake of "Guano" or Fertiliser is put over it. The slits are spread in threes about half a foot apart on the width of the ridge
