    grated them this is how they made stampy bread.That kind of bread is not made now.They baked the bread on a stone in the hearth .The cross that is put on top of the cake is to allow the gas to escape.

    They had bread made from Indian meal ,and wheaten flour long ago.They used to grind the wheat themselves at home with two big stones.They were round stones with a hole in the middle of each.It was smoothed
