  1. Hurling and Football were played in this place. There were fifteen men at each side. I do not know who the captain was. The captain chose the men. It was played in Barefield, two parishes played against each other. I do not know who won. They were dressed in their shirts and trousers. Fair play was shown between them by a referee. The ball was made of thread and covered with leather. It used not be very big. The hurlers made it. The posts used be marked with sticks. They had ash hurleys. Jack McInerney was the best hurler in the place. Pitch
