A sow with a rope trailing from her hind leg used to be seen near Rathclooney Lake, and it followed whoever saw it until they crossed over running water. Then the sow disappeared completely.
A black dog was also supposed to appear at Spancilhill at certain definite periods, but I have not heard of anyone having seen it lately.
Long ago old women were supposed to turn into hares every morning and take a little milk from the cows nearby, and then the cows would run out of milk. But it never happened in this locality.- Bailitheoir
