  1. The weather nowadays is not so severe as the weather long ago. There were many houses, animals and cattle destroyed. People lost their lives in plenty. Trees were knocked down by the strong gale and people died with the diseases the wind carried with it.
    In the year of 1933 there was a very severe snowstorm in which many lives were lost. The snow was two feet deep and in places were snow-drifts were it was five or six feet. This snowstorm was during the Christmas season. One night a man named John Harten from Bruce was going home from the shop and he went astray. He went up the mountain instead of turning homewards. The next day a search was made for his body and the guards found it on the
