  1. Long years ago people believed in fairies, and to the present day in most cases but not generally. It used to be told by old people that if you were lucky to catch one they could tell you where there was gold hidden. I have once heard of a man who came all the way from Scotland to search for one of these crocks of gold about which he was instructed in a dream three nights in succession. He was also directed to take two men with him to assist him in the work. There was a certain kind of animal left to mind the gold at the time it was hidden.
    He arrived home in due course and at the hour of midnight he took the two men as directed and proceeded to work at the spot indicated in the dream. This occurred in a place called Quilca on the shore of the lake. They were not long at work when a great noise started. It seemed at if all the threes about the place were being blown down. They imagined that the lake was covered with people and seemed to be coming
