  1. Here is a story that is told around the parish of Crosserlough. It was told to me by my mother and her name is Mrs Patrick Smith.
    One night at a late hour a young man was returning from playing cards in a neighbour's house a table with a deck of cards money and a man standing beside them was laid out before him in a lonely part of the road.
    The man challenged him to play but he refused and hurried home in great fear.
    When he got home he told his family what he had seen and he never was known of to go play cards again.
    This happened in Ardcill and Ardcill is in County Cavan.
    Here is another story that is told in the same district and by the same person as the previous one.
    Once upon a time there was a man who had a lovely black dog. The dog was very useful and he used to do all the things he could to help his master. This man had a bell and when he would ring the bell the dog would come to him.
    One day the owner of the dog met the priest on the road and he began to tell the priest about the great dod he had and asked him to come and see him.
    The priest came but the man could not get the dog and he searched for him everyplace. In the end he found him in the room under the bed.
    The priest put his stole on him and read from a book.
    The dog came out from under the bed and looked
