  1. Long ago there were times in Ireland when no Catholic could practice their religions or go to Mass as Ireland was under the rule of protestants. These days were called the Penal Days.
    At that time the priest had to say Mass in secret in some lonely places. There had to be people on guard to watch the English while Mass was being said.
    The English soldiers were always on the hunt after the priests. These were traitors in Ireland who were paid to watch
