  1. Hedge Schools. 30 May 1938
    Hedge schools were very common long ago in my district. The principal one was held in my father's barn in Carnagh. In Summer time it was held outside and in winter it was held inside. The teacher who taught there was Peter Sheridan.
    School was never carried on, in the farmers houses. At this time the farmers had to pay the teachers by giving them some of their farm produce. The teacher sat in the centre & the children sat around on stones. The subjects that were taught were English, reading, Arithmetic
