  1. Long ago the people lived mostly on their own produce. They lived on potatoes and stirabout. They made oaten bread and boxty and they used potatoes and buttermilk for their dinner. In the year 1846 in the harvest of the year a strange disease came over the potatoes and they withered away. That year the potatoes was a failure.
    The people had the oats and they sold it to the English government.
