- Farm animals need care and attention. The cows are housed in Winter and in Summer they are out in the pastures. When they are being milked they are put in the byre and tied with chains.
Some people are very superstitious about their cattle. On May eve they put a piece of rowan tree over the door of the byre. They say it is to prevent the witches from taking the butter off the milk.
Long ago they used to tie red strings to the cows tail, lest she should be overlooked by someone with an evil eye.
The horse always receives good care but the donkey and the goat are the least thought(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile) - Bailitheoir
