  1. The boys long ago used to make tops from olds reels. They used to pare them on one end and put a thick nail in them. They used to fasten a twine on the big end and roll it on the spike to make it spin.
    Then the girls used to make dolls out of old clay pipes. She used to have a bonnet on her and a bog of bottons around her neck and a white on her, on which the following words were written:-
    "My name is Miss Piper.
    I'm not a pen wiper.
    If from your shoes.
    A button you loose
    Just come to me.
    And directly you'll see.
