  1. The different festivals of the year have all their own special customs
    On St Stephen's Day some boys catch a wren and make a box and put it in it, and go around from house to house singing songs and dancing and asking money.
    On Shrove Tuesday there are pan-cakes made. Here is a little poem about it
    Pan-cakes Tuesday,
    Is a very happy day,
    If you dont give us a holiday,
    We will all run away.
    Long ago people made pan-cakes, and when they would be turning them they would throw them up in the air and catch them on the pan again.
    On Easter Sunday a lot of children gather together and light a fire of sticks, and they all bring their own eggs, and boil them on the fire.
    On May Day there is a May bush made, and the children catch hands in a ring around it. It is said that the first up on May Day
