  1. About three miles from the town of Cavan is a hill known as Shantamon. Its sides are not abrupt but slope gently; they are covered with flowers and heather.
Let us climb up to the top of it and see what is to be found there. We will first see five huge stones standing erect which are supposed to represent Finn McCool's five fingers. It is said that he carried these stones from Quilcagh Mountain and put them there. You would hardly be able to climb to the top of one of these stones because they are so big.
There is a magnificent view to be seen from the top of Shantamon. Below it lies a flat country with a winding river known as the Annalee running through it. In the distance we can see the spires of Cavan chapel and convent.
Shantamon is so pleasant and so easy to reach that people often go there on picnics in the summer.
The track of Finn McCool's foot is also seen in a rock in the townland of Killyvanny.
