    soda used in this cake but a little salt was used.
    The boxty loaf was made from raw potatoes grated.
    The pulp of the potatoes was put in a cloth and the water was rung out of it.

    In olden times the people used a hand mill or quern for grinding their corn. The woman of the house used to grind each morning what would do the whole day.

  2. Long ago the bread the people used was far stronger than the bread of the present
    This bread long ago was usually made of oats or barley. The oaten bread was mixed with water and salt. The barley bread was made with milk and water and a grain of salt.
    This bread wuld not be used unless it was a couple of days made. That is mostly why people long ago had no toothache like the people nowadays. . The hard bread exercised their teeth
