    master made the pens for the pupils.
    He had an attendance varying from eighty to ninety pupils. He gave vacation for a month in the Harvest, so that pupils would be helpful in the homes, cutting and saving the crops.
    Work again resumed until the vacation at Christmas which was usually for a fortnight. There was half an hour for instruction in the Catechism in the school, and the Catechsim in use in the diocese of Ferns at that time was "Dr Devereux's Manual of "Christian Doctrine". School work commenced at 10 o'clock and ended at 4 o'clock PM; then the pupils separated in small detachments, one taking the eastern road to Rathnure and Gurraun one the road to Killanne, one the Ross road to Coolbawn and Ballindoney, and another the field path up Cnoc-na-Cró up which path in 1798 "The
