The times long ago were very hard times compared with what they are today. The people had to go out in the mornings and thin turnips and do lots of other work before they got their breakfast.
The bread they used was barley bread without butter.
They used to drink tea without milk and sugar and often they had no tea at all. They used to get potatoes and salt and buttermilk for their dinner. They used to get porridge for their breakfast and the same for their supper
