    Bird Lore (Continued)
The robin builds its nest with moss and hair and feathers.
    The robins eggs are spotted.
The wren builds its nest with moss and feathers.
    The wrens eggs are white.
The thrush builds its nest with moss and straw.
    The thrush's eggs are spotted.
Some of the birds sit on the eggs for three weeks and some sit on them a month.
When the whistlers go around whistling it is going to rain.
When the seagulls fly inland it is also a sign of rain.
This is an old tradition telling how the robin got its red breast.
When our Lord was dying on the cross there was a crown of thorns on his head. A robin pulled out one of the thorns and a drop of blood fell on its breast. After that every robin had a red breast.
