The following is a description of how the game of "Marbles" is played in this district.
    Written: 5th July 1938
The games I play are :- Hurling, Marbles, Hand-Ball and Foot-Ball.
I play "Marbles" in the Summer as it is too hot for "Hurling" and other out-door games. I play Foot-Ball and Hand-Ball in the Winter.
As Foot-Ball, Hand-Ball and Hurling are universal games there is no need to describe them so I would like to relate how "Marbles" are played.
Around the district "Marbles" is a favourite game and it is called by more than one name.
The following is a list of names by which it is known:- Marbles, Lobbers, and Taws. This game is played with round pieces of glass, jar, or stone.
There are three holes made in the ground just big enough to let the marble fit into.
These holes are about six feet apart. Any number of people can play in the game
