- There are three tailors in the district at the present day. They always work at their homes and not as in olden times when the tailors travelled from house to house as required by the customers where they remained until the required articles were tailored. The ordinary country tailors do not stock clothes but the tailors in the towns now called "merchant tailors" stock cloths and tweeds of every discription. The tailor has a bench where he sits with his legs crossed under him, he has a very strong sewing machine, a large scissors for cutting out, a measuring tape, chalk to mark, tape to put seams in place, soap to keep the seams in place, a thimble and an iron to press. Most of the shirts are made in the homes. The cloths that are used are lubesca, poplin, check, flannel, etc. We had in our possessio linen shirts, sheets, tablecloths and towels.
