Tithes were collected by the Church-body for the upkeep of the Church of Ireland.
At that time there were many battles fought in cases of evictions in some districts. The occupants of the house used to defend themselves against the crown-forces by throwing pots of gruel at them. The military often had to come on the scene and burn the houses.
There were no battles fought in my district on account of the landlord giving time to the people to pay up. He belonged to a most powerful family in the country and was very much esteemed on account of his kindness to the people.
