    Historical Tradition
    9th June, 1938.
    It is said that Cromwell passed through my district and banished the monks out of the monastery of Abbeylara.
    It is also said that Cromwell's soldiers discovered a few people in a cave in my district and spent a couple of days trying to smother them with smoke. Some of the people had guns with them and shot some of the soldiers.
    There were crevices in the cave but the soldiers closed these so that the people then smothered. The soldiers then went into the cave and found most of the people dead and those that were not
