street the School was situated and Miss KATE KIERNAN his sister. Mr Kiernan taught in Loughduff Co Cavan and Miss KIERNAN taught in Clooneen in Co. Longford. There was another school at the same time in Larkfield on the street owned at present by Mr John Keogh.
Mr Leonard taught here and he was a travelling teacher Mr Kienan told me that he often heard that the pupils paid this teacher 1d a week for their education but he was kept from house to house in the district.
He taught reading, writing and Arithmetic. Mr Kiernan heard that some of pupils used slates made from lime stone or some stone. Quill pens were used and home made ink but he cannot say what the ink was made from.
There is no trace of when Irish was used in this district.
