The old graveyard was down by the old Franciscan Abbey.
The field next to it is still called "The Cholera Ground". During the Famine, the people died in such numbers and so quickly that they had no time to put them in coffins. The dead bodies were piled into the "Cholera Ground" in '47. There is a doorway there still and the bodies were heaved through this. Mr. Lyster was the last to be buried in the Abbey.
The old Church is still there, and there are many old tombstones. There is one with a hammer, a pinchers and an anvil carved on it. This shows a blacksmith was buried there. There is a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
