- There is a story told locally of a gander called the "Schreecher," It is said that schreechers used to be seen on the wall and heard screeching. He often frightened people. He used to be on the Mearescourt road.The people were so much afraid of him, that they asked the priest to banish him and he did. It is said that the priest had such a fight with him, that blood was seen on the road, and that it was tore up, but he was never seen again. The schreecher was a huge bird and was supposed to be an Eagle.It is said that there is a black ram - seen in a gullet below the school and that several accidents have occured there. Horses and carts have fallen in, and men driving cars have tumbled in there, and it is all left on the black ram. He is not banished yet.
