  1. There was an old school long ago in Glengorm and the master who taught in it was master Brennan. It was an indoor school. The children paid the master a penny each per week. Writing was taught on slates and the pupils sat on stools.

  2. There were many hedge schools around here long ago. The children were taught in the open and the teachers lodged in the houses. The teachers were paid by the childrens' parents who gave according to their means. The subjects taught were, arithmetic, reading and spelling. Irish was little taught.
