Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The people long ago made their own candles. They had a pan called a grisset in which the melt the lard. First of all rushes were collected. Then each was pulled until it was as thin as a thread. Then the lard was melted on the grisset which was boat shaped. Then the peeled rushes were drawn through the lard until coated and then left to dry. This process was repeated until the candles were of the required thickness. They were then left on a candle trough to dry and were fit for use after two hours.
