- (continued from previous page)backing out turf on the bog. He made 'gobans' for calves to keep them from picking up straws when young.
- Before the threshing machines came into use people used to thresh their corn with a flail. This was made from a fairly thick hazel stick called a hand staff and a thinner stick of holly called a bolkeen. A rod was bent and tied to the end of these. It was hawthorn and they were joined together with an ell skin. Each sheaf was then beaten until the grain was out of it.
It was then put in a riddle and shaken until all the straws were shaken away. It was then ready for(continues on next page) - Informant
