“People long ago used to gather the sheeps' wool from the bushes and wash it and bleach it.”
People long ago used to gather the sheeps' wool from the bushes and wash it and bleach it. Then they carded it and spun it into yarn, and out of this yarn they knitted the stockings. The thing they used when carding the wool was made of two pieces of wood which were covered with small teeth like heads of pins.Josie McGinn (Scoláire)Got from - Mrs Margaret Reid (aged 76)

- Household UtensilsWillow plates and dishes were quite common long ago.
Pewter plates were also much to be seen, and some people had their dressers laden with pewter. (Both these are very scarce now, and on that account are valuable).
Noggins were wooden vessels used long ago for drinking purposes.
Besoms were used instead of brooms or brushes and were made from boxwood. Strong besoms made of hazel twigs were used for sweeping chimneys.Patrick Lennon (Scoláire)Got from - Mrs Bridget Lennon (45)
