  1. "Jack's Own Daughter" was a famous racehorse owned by Willie Gavin, Kildysart.
    He was a personal friend of Frank Whitstone of Clondagad House, and "Jack's Own Daughter" was well known by every man around here fifty years ago.
    Gavin used speak of her as "as nice a hack as ever a man rode."
    The following are some verses composed by her owner who used boast that she won 109 races.
    "Jack's Own Daughter"
    Alas! alas! Jack's Own Daughter's score
    Has died with her for evermore
    Her bridle here, her saddle there
    The pride & joy of glorious Clare.
    No more she'll face the starter's flag
    Or show her heels to mare or nag.
    She won a hundred and nine races in her day
    Making a record that's sure to stay
