  1. Once upon a time there lived a man near Gorloss Lake, in the parish of Kildysart. He was a farmer but was very poor and he had no horse to do his farm work. One day while he was digging in his garden he heard a great noise and on looking around he beheld a beautiful grey horse grazing in the headland. At first he was amazed but after a while he caught the horse. He put the horse to work and she proved to be very satisfactory. She reared a good many foals which the farmer sold at the local fairs. The foals fetched a very good price.
One day while he was plouging with the horse, he was nearing the headland and the horse went out too far. The farmer cursed her. She stood up, shook herself and the tackling immediately fell off her. She made a plunge and she ran to the lake. She stood at the brink and neighed several times. The foals which were now in different parts of the country came to her and she disappeared into the lake with them. The poor man was again left without a horse at all because he would not control his tongue and stop cursing the fine horse which was so useful to him.
