“In olden times the people could not have any schools unless they were private ones...”
(continued from previous page)until they were nine or ten years. The poor people were not so well educated but the rich people sent their children away foreign to have them educated. The poor people had to leave school after a few years to go out earning their living. The school mentioned was surrounded by trees and it was in a very lonely place. They sat on boxes for they had no other seats. They had no desks and it is on tables they left their slates. They made those tables themselves.

There was an old school in Kilcash a long time ago. It was a great school for learning. The ruins of it are still there. Scholars had to come from many different places. The teacher was living three miles away from the school. It was only a thatched(continues on next page) - Collector
