- A Severe Storm of 1897About the year 1897 there was a severe storm which did a lot of damage such as knocked down houses and blew the roofs off them, and knocked the trees. it was mostly all thatched houses that were in Ireland at the time. The men were very busy. They were up all night on the roofs of their houses protecting them. On the evening of the storm the wind could be heard whistling and moaning around the house. At the time there was a platform at Reens Pike and the boards of it were blown miles away and a coopers shop which was also at Reens Pike was blown miles through the fields. Next morning the roads were blocked with trees and pieces of timbers and thatch. A lot of men were engaged in clearing the threes and the pieces of thatch and timber of the road(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
