- During Shrove most of the marriages take place. The unlucky months are May and December and the unlucky days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The customs is to throw confetti or rice on the Bride and Bridegroom. There are a few matches made in our district. Money is given as fortune or houses or farm and stock. Some of the married people go away on their honeymoon and others don't go anywhere. A feast is held after the marriage. Few straw boys are seen now. Most people wear a gown and long trail on their marriage day. It is supposed to be lucky for the bride to wear something blue, something old, something borrowed and something new. If the bride wears an old veil it is supposed to being her luck. It is supposed to be unlucky for the bride to fit on her wedding dress after it has been completed until the wedding day. The bride should not see the bridegroom until she meets him in the church on the wedding(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
