  1. 4. Whens the cat and dog sit with their back to the fire we should be expecting rain and harsh weather usually. When the sea birds come inland they make known to us that the weather is stormy at sea and that we will have bad weather too. When timid birds such as the thrush and black-bird frequent the farm-yard in search of food we are sure of frost.
    When the sun rises grey we are going to have a fine day. If there is a halo round the moon the rain is coming. When the stars shine brightly in the winter we are likely to have frost. When there is a very black cloud in the West we should be expecting rain. When we hear the wind whistling through the key hole it is the sign of a storm. When the rainbow is seen in morning it is a sign of rain.
    When the dust is round the road it is an indication of rain. When the ants get busy it is a sign that the rain is coming. If the smoke goes low the rain is coming.
